He was known around the world for is iconic fashion and costume designs. He dressed Carol Bernett, Cher and Liza Minelli, just to name a few.
But for me, he was so much more.
I was incredibly fortunate to work with him while I was at Riviera Concepts as the Brand Manager of Mackie fragrance franchise. I can still remember the first time he called me and left a message:
“Hi Vikki, this is Bob Mackie. Can you call me?”
That moment still makes me smile.
Over the years, I had the privilege working with Bob Mackie on so many wonderful projects, from developing seasonal brand stories inspired by his beautiful gift box designs (he didn’t just design gowns) to his personal appearances where he loved meeting his fans and loyal customers, to creating an immersive retrospective of his incredible career through the Mackie Exhibit, showcasing his work with iconic fashion, Mackie Barbie’s while promoting his fragrances at retail. I even partnered with him for a giveaway featuring his exclusive furniture collection. It was a lot of fun and such a rewarding experience. I wouldn’t trade it for anything in this world.
Bob was full of colour, creativity and life. But what I will remember most was his kindness and gentle spirit.
He encouraged me to be creative, think outside the box and never let anyone dim my light. Those lessons I will carry with me forever.
He will always hold a special place in my heart.
